"...but of Love, of Joy and of a Sound Mind."

Now to Him who is able to keep you from stumbling, and to make you stand in the presence of His glory blameless with great joy, to the only God our Savior, through Jesus Christ our Lord, be glory, majesty, dominion and authority, before all time and now and forever. Amen. Jude 24-25

From a Toddler to a Boy

Jo-En seems to have adopted a sense of inferiority complex with his skin condition and his inability to be good at what he does, but SW and I kept encouraging him and urging him not to give up. I was like that when I was in primary and secondary school years. The quest to discover what I am good also drove me to give up once I found out I have no flair in the activity. But Jo-En is different. I see the potential in him, I know he will succeed in anything he wants to do if he sets his mind and heart to do it.

Competition amongst his peers may have contributed to his sense of lowliness. But he keeps forgetting that he just turned 6 last December. Many of his peers will have a head start in terms of development, but I know he will catch up and beat them all in due time. Before that time comes, I pray that we will continue to keep him  humble. I am only imagine the kind of taunts that he is experiencing in school. Part of me what to protect him from the world, yet another part of me simply tells me to let go and let him taste the world until he comes home to me. And there in our time together, affirm him and teach him about the ways of the Lord and instil in him a great sense of Godliness and to live a life where our trust in God trumps over all adversities.

3 weeks ago I visit Jo-En as he started his swimming CCA. After he showered, a school mate simply laughed at him for wearing spectacles. Jo-En did not retaliate or reply, but I told that boy "He looked great in the specs" and that kid kept saying "No he doesn't". What kind of kid would want to say such nonsensical thing to another kid? What is his motive? If I ever see him and hear him say that again, I am going to teach him a lesson about prejudice. The colour of his skin will make it easy, "Do you like people looking down on you because of the colour of your skin? So do not look down on others who wear spectacles!"
