"...but of Love, of Joy and of a Sound Mind."

Now to Him who is able to keep you from stumbling, and to make you stand in the presence of His glory blameless with great joy, to the only God our Savior, through Jesus Christ our Lord, be glory, majesty, dominion and authority, before all time and now and forever. Amen. Jude 24-25

R.I.P. Common Sense

This is a very interesting article I got from the Moriel website. I dedicate this who have been a victim of the death of our good old friend, Common Sense. It's written in an American context. Probably from some real stories from the newspaper or the author's own life. I couldn't help but laugh as I see the similarities of what's happening in Singapore. When the laughter died down, I can't help but to weep at the condition of our society today. Revive Common Sense today!

Today we mourn the passing of a beloved old friend, Common Sense, who has been with us for many years. No one knows for sure how old he was, as his birth records were long ago lost in bureaucratic red tape. He will be remembered as having cultivated such valuable lessons as knowing when to come in out of the rain, why the early bird gets the worm, life isn't always fair, and maybe it was my fault. Common Sense lived by simple, sound financial policies (don't spend more than you earn) and reliable parenting strategies (adults, not children, are in charge).

His health began to deteriorate rapidly when well intentioned but overbearing regulations were set in place. Reports of a six-year-old boy charged with sexual harassment for kissing a classmate; teens suspended from school for using mouthwash after lunch and a teacher fired for reprimanding an unruly student, only worsened his condition.

Common Sense lost ground when parents attacked teachers for doing the job they failed to do in disciplining their unruly children. It declined even further when schools were required to get parental consent to administer Panadol, sun lotion or a sticky plaster to a student but could not inform the parents when a student became pregnant and wanted to have an abortion.

Common Sense lost the will to live as the Ten Commandments became contraband; churches became businesses; and criminals received better treatment than their victims. Common Sense took a beating when you couldn't defend yourself from a burglar in your own home and the burglar can sue you for assault. Common Sense finally gave up the will to live, after a woman failed to realise that a steaming cup of coffee was hot. She spilled a little in her lap, and was promptly awarded a huge settlement.

Common Sense was preceded in death by his parents, Truth and Trust, his wife, Discretion, his daughter, Responsibility; and his son, Reason. He is survived by three stepbrothers; I Know My Rights, Someone Else Is To Blame and I'm A Victim.

Not many attended his funeral because so few realised he was gone. If you still remember him, pass this on. If not join the majority and do nothing.

Jenn,

The article was interesting. And interestingly true.Because it shows the decadent society we live in,and the i think to me,the last sentence was the most poignant,"Not many attended his funeral because so few realised he was gone."-that really describes the society we live in today.a society that has no idea that it is decaying. it is a society where many have lost their sense of right and wrong and dont even realise it.it is a world that knows no direction and is walking towards destruction.

This is a society that needs- GOD.

And perhaps the article descibes many Christians too... well.

Good stuff, Jacob is so satirical.

Is there anything we can do or can all we do be to hark the impending death and doom of all within this earth and what it stands for.

We can snatch some from the fire, but lest we tread into "dominionism", we must realise that it doesn't get any better from here.

When I read this, I was reminded of Romans 1:18-32. We really need to guard our minds and our hearts with the word of God in order not to be desensitized by the world.

Like for example, when we substituted the meaning for "like" for the meaning of "love", the world will be confused and empty, forever looking but never finding.

This demonstrates is the power of the media doesn't it? I always ask myself if I’m also slowly becoming desensitized by it. Am I also beginning to be like Lot living in Sodom flirting with Sin?

It’s also interesting to note that how people devalue the meaning of love while some people over rate it and worship it as a god. Languages may be invented by humanity but language is not and when we change the meaning of a word we changed the meaning of the world.

It has become increasingly scary because common sense has evolved. What was common became what is obsolete. People ask but they don’t want to listen because inside they form an answer for themselves. Everybody follows everybody and everything now becomes politically correct. Everything is gone and truth vaporizes into the atmosphere that’s why the philosopher is absolutely convinced that truth is merely relative.

And the world is how it is now because truth is no longer absolute. What God created for good, man used for evil. But we can rest in hope because God said in his word that whatever man used for evil he can use it for good. God makes everything beautiful in his time :)
